How Strong Will Loft Boarding Be?

Our loft boarding systems are exceptionally strong, secure, and built to last. The overall strength and stability of your new storage platform come down to a combination of premium high-grade flooring materials and expertly engineered sub-frame frameworks tailored to your specific roof type.

Premium Flooring: 18mm Tongue and Groove Boards

We use purpose-made 18mm thick, tongue and groove particle boards. Manufactured from high-density compressed wood particles bound with heavy-duty structural adhesive, these boards interlock tightly to create a seamless, rigid, and uniform floor. This surface distributes weight evenly across the sub-frame underneath, making it completely safe to walk on and store household items.

Modern Truss Roofs: The LOFT-E® System

For modern properties featuring a standard truss roof structure:

  • Unmatched Leg Capacity: Our industry-leading LOFT-E system (comprising LOFT-E Lite and LOFT-E Adjustable variants) is engineered to be exceptionally strong, with a weight capacity per leg considerably higher than the joists it attaches to.
  • Flexible Adjustability: Parts of the system are fully adjustable, making it easy to accommodate uneven timbers while maintaining a perfectly level floor.
  • Structural Variables: While the sub-frame platform itself is heavily load-tested, the ultimate weight capacity for any floor type depends on variables unique to your home, primarily the load limits of your roof trusses.

Older Purlin Roofs: The LBNW Timber Subframe

For older, period properties featuring traditional purlin roof structures:

  • Independent Support: Unlike inferior methods used by other companies—such as laying basic 3x2 timber battens directly across existing ceiling joists, which can weaken them—our bespoke LBNW Timber Subframe is engineered differently.
  • No Strain on Ceiling Joists: Your standard ceiling joists are only designed to hold up plasterboard ceilings below, not act as a structural floor. Our LBNW timber framework is self-supporting, cleverly utilizing internal structural walls and heavy roof purlins to take the weight.
  • Maximum Safety: This robust engineering strengthens the boarded area completely, making it ultra-secure and safe for heavy domestic storage without putting pressure on your ceiling.
